From Software has officially called Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree the “biggest expansion” in the studio's history. Players will find themselves in a “whole new world” in Between-Earth and will be able to seamlessly travel between “huge maps” of the Shadowfell.

Mikel will introduce daredevils to new lands, and during their adventures they will meet others who will “follow in his footsteps” – he is a demigod and Malenia’s brother. The expansion's storyline will focus on this character.

Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree will have a big world – bigger than Limgrave. From Software wanted to offer something new, so it experimented with creating “more varied gameplay.”

Players can expect more than 10 boss fights and eight new weapon categories – the developers have announced Japanese sword, monk style hand-to-hand combat and throwing weapons. Players can expect to face opponents with a level “equal to Malenia”, and the difficulty level will be similar to the endgame of the base game. The loot contains “lots of new weapons, equipment, and skills.”

The world structure is similar to Elden Ring: warriors will travel across a wide area, and also enter large dungeons and smaller dungeons. The developers will take players into the poisoned swamps.

It is expected that the expansion will feature a new leveling mechanic, similar to Attack Power from Sekiro. Mesmer (the character from the picture) is an enemy whose level is similar to Godric and Malenia.

Work on the expansion began after the release of Elden Ring, and events unfold “in the same timeline as in the base version.” From Software has no plans for the next expansion yet.
