Muscovites began to stick over license plates on electric scooters, the service claims that this is useless
Yesterday we wrote that the kick-sharing service Whoosh opened the electric scooter rental season in Moscow, equipping its entire fleet with large numbers made of flexible, wear-resistant plastic. The presence of such numbers should help in recording violations, and this, obviously, did not sit well with some Muscovites. Photos and videos of scooters with numbers taped over began to spread online, in particular, the Telegram channel «Moscow News» drew attention to this.
But Whoosh said that it is useless to cover up the license plates: the offender can still be identified using the technologies built into the electric scooter. License plates on electric scooters – These are not state-issued signs, like on cars, but the number of a personal mobility device within the service. The numbers help track violations using CCTV cameras in case of geolocation failures; this is one of the simplest ways of recording, but not the only one.
The Whoosh press service said that every trip is still tracked online: the service «sees» user, his trajectory, speed, route, etc., and can even analyze his driving style. Whoosh urged users to follow travel rules, avoid violations and be respectful of other road users.
