Hacker attack on Activision users detected Author: Anastasia Bobkova, today, 04:04
One of the leading video game publishers, Activision, is under attack from hackers who are using malware to steal user credentials.
What is known
According to a report from TechCrunch, the attacks particularly affect players who use third-party programs, in particular cheats for the game Call of Duty.
After Activision spokesperson Delani Simmons announced the investigation, it became known that hackers had successfully used malware to access players' computers. They stole credentials such as logins for gaming accounts and even crypto wallets.
An official source from Activision stated that the company does not provide assistance to remove malicious software. They also noted that the problem is with third party software providers and not with Activision's internal infrastructure.
An investigation has revealed that a Call of Duty rogue software developer known as Zeebler may be involved in this intrusion. He told TechCrunch that he discovered the attack after one of his clients lost account access due to the malware. According to Zeebler, this program was disguised as official software, but in fact it was designed to steal user data.
According to an Activision spokesperson, the company's servers remain secure, but users are advised to be careful when downloading third-party programs and to always check the authenticity of login pages.
