There are 23 companies in the rating, mainly from the USA and China
Yandex became the only Russian company to be among the world leaders in the development of artificial intelligence (AI). The rating was compiled by scientists from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and experts from the Epoch AI Center; there are 23 companies in total. Experts compared participants based on the number of scientific publications, their citations, unique authors, training of AI models and development of algorithms. The list included mostly American and Chinese companies: Google, OpenAI, Meta*, Microsoft, Huawei, Tencent, Baidu, Twitter (now X), Uber, Intel and others.
According to the study, Google and Microsoft lead in the number of publications and citations, and the greatest contributions to the development of AI were made by Google, OpenAI and Meta*. The Russian company Yandex took 19th place out of 23 in terms of the number of scientific publications for 2010–2023: it has 246 publications. In terms of the number of citations, Yandex took second to last place — 3530 citations. It is worth noting that in terms of the number of unique authors and the level of citations for each of them, Yandex is ahead of such industry giants as Amazon, Huawei, Intel, IBM, etc. The level of development of Yandex AI technologies was rated as average, a similar rating was received by Tencent, Baidu and Huawei.
