Users will have more control over the home screen
Bloomberg's Mark Gurman writes that users should expect a redesigned iPhone home screen in iOS 18. He says iOS 18 will make the home screen “more customizable.” MacRumors adds that one of the changes will mean iPhone users will be able to freely arrange app icons in a grid, making it possible for the first time to have empty spaces, rows and columns between icons on the screen.
Apple believes that iOS 18 will be the biggest update ever. The key focus will be on artificial intelligence, and artificial intelligence functions will be integrated into the operating system. Apple may also integrate chatbot functionality through Google's Gemini.
Gurman says iOS 18 will include a host of artificial intelligence features that will «help manage your daily life». It was previously reported that Apple is working on things like improvements to Siri, AI-generated playlists for Apple Music, AI-powered document creation in iWork, smarter reply suggestions in messages, and more.
iOS 18 will be announced at WWDC in June along with other Apple operating systems: iPadOS 18, watchOS 11, VisionOS 2 and the new version of macOS. Apple releases first developer betas in June ahead of public release in fall.
Apple is expected to confirm the date for WWDC 2024 in the next couple of weeks.
