YouTube continues to fight against ad blocking. Last June, the service conducted a small experiment in this regard, then in October it launched a full-fledged attack on ad blockers. Now the company is once again strengthening restrictions in this area.
YouTube has announced that it will begin enforcing a no-ad blocking policy on third-party apps that violate YouTube's Terms of Service. In this case, YouTube uses the term “ad blocking apps,” although it can be assumed that third-party players with built-in ad blocking may also be targeted by the new restrictions.
Ad blocking apps like AdGuard allow you to open YouTube within the app where you can watch videos without ads. Now this will no longer be possible. If you try to use this workaround, you will have problems with video buffering and will see the error message “This content is not available in this application.”
YouTube stresses that its terms do not allow third-party apps to disable ads, “because doing so prevents the creator from being compensated for views, and because advertising on YouTube helps support creators and allows billions of people around the world to enjoy the streaming service.”
If users are bothered by advertising on YouTube, the service offers a paid version of YouTube Premium for 99 UAH per month.
