China Southern Airlines, China's largest carrier, plans to conduct additional safety checks on the Boeing 737 Max 9 aircraft it is due to receive this month, as reported by avia.ru with reference to The Wall Street Journal.
The Wall Street Journal emphasizes that the resumption of imports of the Boeing 737 Max 9 is one of the most important conditions for the normalization of Boeing's business in China. Boeing has long been the leader in U.S. exports to China, and airplanes make up a significant portion of those exports. According to the American company's forecasts, about 20% of all global aircraft deliveries in the next two decades will come from China.
It's unclear how long these checks might take, which has created uncertainty about delivery times, The Wall Street Journal added, citing people with knowledge of the matter.
In early January, an American Alaska Airlines Boeing 737 Max 9 made an emergency landing at Portland Airport after losing a door in the air at an altitude of about 5 km. None of the passengers were injured.
After this, in the USA and a number of other countries, planes were grounded for inspections, which revealed loose bolts.
