Not only Toyota: the Daihatsu crash test scandal affected Mazda and Subaru cars

Their production at Daihatsu factories is also suspended

According to the Japanese publication Yomiuri, Mazda and Subaru have suspended orders for the production of their cars at Daihatsu factories. As we already wrote, it was discovered that the automaker Daihatsu falsified the results of crash tests to obtain state certification for its vehicles. An independent commission found more than 170 violations that concern not only Daihatsu models, but also a number of cars sold under the Toyota brand (owner of Daihatsu).

It turned out that the crash test scandal affected not only cars of the Daihatsu and Toyota brands: Daihatsu also produced a total of eight models, which were then sold under the Mazda and Subaru brands. Their release has been suspended; it is not known when it will be resumed. Currently, Japan's Ministry of Public Lands, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism is conducting inspections at Daihatsu's head office, and in the meantime the company is suspending operations at all of its factories in Japan. Daihatsu specializes in the production of small cars; in the Japanese market, the brand's models occupy about a third of the market in this segment.
