Rosatom specialists have created a plasma accelerator; on its basis, a prototype plasma rocket engine will be developed that can be used for interplanetary missions. This will allow Russia to reach a new level of space exploration, as reported by the press service of the state corporation.

A plasma accelerator with an external magnetic field is designed to create a prototype plasma rocket engine with increased thrust parameters (at least 6 N) and specific impulse (at least 100 km/s). The average power of such an engine operating in a pulse-periodic mode can reach 300 kW.

Rosatom believes that the creation of a plasma rocket engine with a power of several hundred kilowatts in the future will allow interplanetary flights, as well as regular exchange of cargo between the Earth and the Moon.
