This is the difference in multi-threaded tests
Test results for AMD Hawk Point processors in Geekbench have appeared on the Internet, and they show a significant increase in performance.
First, let's recall the characteristics of the new CPUs. AMD Ryzen 7 8700G – This is the top model of the line. It has 8 cores, 16 MB L3 cache and 8 MB L2 cache, frequency from 4.2 to 5.1 GHz, TDP 65 W. The composition includes a top-end iGPU Radeon 780M with 12 computing units and a frequency of 2.9 GHz. Ryzen 7 8700G price in USA – $330
AMD Ryzen 5 8600G – 6-core, 12-thread processor with 16 MB L3 cache and 6 MB L2 cache. With the same TDP value of 65 W, lower frequencies – 4.3-5.0 GHz. iGPU is also simpler – This is a Radeon 760M with 8 compute units and a frequency of 2.8 GHz. Processor price – $230
We tested processors on different platforms: Ryzen 7 8700G – on the Asus ROG STRIX B650-A Gaming WIFI motherboard with 32 GB DDR5-6400 memory, and for the Ryzen 5 8600G tests we used the MSI B650 Gaming Plus WIFI motherboard.
The results are shown in the graph above. The AMD Ryzen 7 8700G provides a performance increase of 64% in the multi-threaded test and 37% in the single-threaded test relative to the Ryzen 5 5700G model. As for the Ryzen 5 8600G, it outperforms the Ryzen 5 5600G by 50% in the multi-threaded test and by 29% in the single-threaded test.
In general, the upgrade turned out to be impressive, but here we need to note a nuance: Ryzen 5 5600G and Ryzen 5 5700G came out 2.5 years ago, and all this time AMD was in no hurry to release successors. If the company updated its CPU lines every year, the difference in performance between old and new CPUs would hardly be so significant.
