Then the company called the video card non-functional and not covered by warranty
The Asus company got into a scandal due to the very strange work of the support service. The repair of the video card, which could not even be called a repair, was estimated at Asus at almost $3,800.
The story was told by a Reddit user, supported by screenshots of correspondence with Asus support. The point is that the author of the message bought a very expensive Asus GeForce RTX 4090 ROG Strix White OC video card, paying $2,800 for it. A strange mark was found on the power connector of the new card, looking as if the latch of the power connector had severely scratched the connector. In addition, when connecting the connector, the author did not hear a characteristic click. Having heard about the melting contacts of the RTX 4090, the owner decided to take the card to a service center, and after a while received a response from Asus that the repair would cost $3,758! This is despite the fact that there is actually nothing to repair there.
The author asked the supervisor to make sure that the price was set correctly, and he confirmed it was correct, however, offering a 30 percent discount.
The author filed a complaint, after which he received a response from Asus that the card was now inoperable due to some damage, although the owner himself sent it to the service center in fully working condition. Moreover, the warranty does not cover this case. The owner was offered to buy a new card with a 30% discount.
Of course, this is an isolated case, but the absurdity of the situation and the big name of Asus made it very big news.
