Clearance will be 250 mm
Mercedes-Benz continues testing the electric version of the iconic G-Class SUV. In a new video, company CEO Ola Källenius personally demonstrates the capabilities of an electric car on a frozen lake in Arjeplog, Sweden.
Källenius emphasized that, despite its electric nature, the new G-Class will be positioned as a full-fledged SUV that can cope with any conditions. The company conducts an extensive testing program, including tests in low temperatures and on slippery surfaces, to ensure the vehicle's functionality anywhere in the world.
During the demonstration, the electric G-Class performed the now traditional tank turn (G-Turn), and also went through a slalom and demonstrated controllability in a skid on an ice ring at a speed of about 100 km/h. Källenius noted that the stabilizing electronics carefully intervene in the movement of the electric car, successfully dampening the swaying.
High controllability is achieved thanks to four electric motors – one for each wheel, which provides precise control of directional stability. The final test was to accelerate the SUV from zero to 100 km/h on ice, which took only a few seconds.
For the first time, some official characteristics of the electric G-Class were announced. So, the ground clearance will be 250 millimeters, and the approach and departure angles will be 32 and 35 degrees, respectively.
