In the coming months, the first laptops with Windows and SoC Snapdragon X Elite/Plus will hit the market. Microsoft believes such PCs will outperform Apple laptops based on the M3 SoC.
In this case, we mean an advantage in classical performance, as well as in performance in artificial intelligence tasks. Let us remind you that the new Qualcomm platform is credited with a performance of 70-75 TOPS, while the Apple M3 has it several times lower.
Microsoft is so confident in Qualcomm's new platforms that it plans to hold a series of demonstrations that will show how much faster these SoCs are than the M3 in the MacBook Air at classic CPU tasks, AI acceleration and even application emulation.
In internal documents, Microsoft says these new laptops will have faster application emulation than Rosetta 2! Let us recall that in fact it was Rosetta that allowed Apple to create such successful products combining the Arm architecture and regular macOS. And it was emulation that was the problem for the previous generation of Windows Arm PCs.
Microsoft plans to release the future Surface Pro 10 and Surface Laptop 6 mobile PCs with the Snapdragon X Elite SoC instead of the Intel Core Ultra CPU, which is already very significant.
By the way, there is also information about a rather important function of Windows 11, which will rely specifically on NPU blocks. We're talking about AI Explorer. This is a more modern analogue of the Timeline function, which at one time appeared in Windows 10 and was then removed. The function allows you to view the history of all user work with the PC. AI Explorer will supposedly work with all applications, and the processing of the relevant data will go directly to the NPU.
