Since entering the foldable device market in the third quarter of 2019, Samsung has held the leading position in shipments and first in purchasing volume, but they were replaced by BOE and Huawei in the fourth quarter of 2023.

In the fourth quarter of 2023, BOE ranked first with a 42% foldable panel market share, while Samsung's share fell from 76% in the third quarter to 36% in the fourth quarter. Samsung's foldable panel shipments fell 70% in the fourth quarter compared to the previous quarter.

DSCC said that BOE's market share growth is largely due to significant growth in sales of Huawei foldable smartphones. Huawei's purchases in the fourth quarter increased by 122% compared to the previous quarter.

Poor launch sales of the foldable Galaxy Z Flip and Fold 5 phones launched by Samsung last year are another reason for Samsung's declining market share.

According to the forecast, Samsung may return to first place in the first quarter of this year. DSCC claims Samsung could release a cheaper foldable phone within a year.
