China is conducting an unusual experiment to ensure public order using unmanned aerial vehicles. Special drones equipped with a video surveillance system and speakers for voice prompts are on duty at intersections in Guangzhou.

The quadcopter independently monitors traffic violations and responds to them with warning remarks. Thus, the drone recommends to pedestrians who crossed the roadway at a red light or were talking on a mobile phone to continue to comply with traffic rules. Drivers caught drinking drinks or using gadgets are also given strict recommendations.

Although drones are capable of performing some tasks of patrolling the streets, they are unlikely to be able to completely replace people in the field of law enforcement.
