With a focus on Windows
The next generation of the Xbox gaming console may not be the product you thought it would be. As a Windows Central journalist reports, the next-gen Xbox will most likely not be a console in the classic sense, but a reference device. That is, it will not be the only one.
The next Xbox will have a strong Windows leaning and will likely become the reference device for manufacturers making devices like the Asus ROG Ally. Like the Surface Pro 11 — Artificial Intelligence PC Reference Device
That is, we have two aspects here at once. First, bias in Windows. It's not very clear what this will mean, but perhaps we'll even get Steam on Xbox. The second aspect is also very important. If the Xbox Next serves as the reference device, that means there will be others like it. The example of the new generation Surface Pro is not very indicative here, since it is just one of the laptop models based on Snapdragon X, but in any case, the Xbox console in such a situation will cease to be what it has been all these years — an independent product from Microsoft. Instead, we'll get a whole ecosystem of Xbox devices, probably with identical specs, but different designs and some of their own minor features. This has never happened before on the console market, although we can remember the era of the NES and its unofficial clones around the world.
By the way, if Steam does appear on Xbox, this will mean that on such consoles it will be possible to play former PlayStation exclusives that will be available on PC.
