During the recall campaign, parts of the high-pressure fuel pump will be changed.
On December 1, it became known that Toyota and two Toyota joint ventures in China, FAW Toyota and GAC Toyota, would recall about 570,000 vehicles produced from 2018 to 2023.
FAW Toyota has issued a recall for certain Corolla vehicles manufactured between August 6, 2019 and July 11, 2023 (350,021 vehicles in total). GAC Toyota has recalled certain Highlander vehicles manufactured between October 13, 2018 and January 14, 2022 (157,458 vehicles total). Toyota Motor (China) has recalled certain imported Lexus RX vehicles manufactured between September 4, 2018 and September 6, 2022 (68,434 vehicles in total).
Vehicles affected by the recall do not have sufficient pressure resistance of the internal parts of the high pressure fuel pump, and wear may occur inside the fuel pump resulting in cracks in welded parts due to stress concentration. In extreme cases, fuel may leak out of the cracks. Contact with external sources of fire poses a risk of fire. At the same time, fuel leaks and evaporates.
FAW Toyota, GAC Toyota and Toyota Motor (China) will inspect high-pressure fuel pumps for vehicles subject to recall free of charge and replace parts that do not meet specifications.
Before the recall and repair, owners were warned to try to avoid proximity to sources of fire. If the user detects a fuel odor or fuel leakage, the user should stop using the vehicle and contact the dealer for disposal.
