Huawei has a chance to win some market share from Nvidia
Nvidia, as previously reported, is partially sacrificing GPU production for gaming video cards in favor of accelerators for AI. It looks like Huawei will do about the same thing.
The Chinese giant reportedly intends to take over Nvidia's share of the AI accelerator market. At least in China. To achieve this, Huawei intends to shift its focus to the production of relevant chips, but to the detriment of the production of mobile SoCs.
Ascend AI chips are manufactured in the same place where Kirin mobile platforms are made. At the same time, the production capacity of SMIC, and here this Chinese company is probably meant, is very limited. Since Nvidia is currently experiencing problems in China due to US sanctions, Huawei has a chance to offer its products to local customers.
Already, as reported, due to this policy, the production volumes of the Mate 60 line of smartphones, which, by the way, are extremely popular in China, have suffered. It is likely that Huawei’s new policy will also affect the company’s future flagships.
