You no longer need a Google Pixel or Samsung Galaxy phone to use Gemini in Messages

Requires an Android smartphone and at least 6 GB of RAM

Google first released the Gemini (formerly Bard) chatbot for its Google Messages app in early 2024, but access required a Google Pixel or Samsung Galaxy device. Fortunately, this requirement has now been relaxed.

On the updated support page, the requirement for Google Pixel or Samsung Galaxy has disappeared. Now it says that to use Gemini in «Messages» You will need a device based on the Android operating system, equipped with at least 6 GB of RAM.

An archived version of the support page posted earlier in June mentioned specific phone models: Pixel 6 and later, Pixel Fold, Samsung Galaxy S22 series or later, Galaxy Z Flip or later, or Galaxy Z Fold and later .
