In Komsomolsk-on-Amur, construction began on a complex for the production of a light multi-purpose aircraft «Baikal» — This was reported by the press service of the government of the Khabarovsk Territory. The complex will be located in the priority development territory of Khabarovsk, on a site near existing aircraft manufacturing enterprises and airfield infrastructure.
Since the beginning of 2024, construction work has been carried out around the clock, the commissioning of the building is planned for December of this year, and the start of aircraft production is scheduled for 2025. The production capacity at the new enterprise should be at least 20 aircraft per year.
Recall that the promising domestic aircraft LMS-901 «Baikal», certification tests of which have already begun, should replace the outdated An-2 «Kukuruznik». The new light aircraft will be used for cargo and passenger transportation, forest patrol and other monitoring work, air ambulance, rescue and agricultural work.
Airline «Aurora» has already confirmed the need for 105 aircraft. For the needs of the Khabarovsk Territory, it is planned to produce 17 aircraft starting in 2025. The first 7 «Baikals» will carry out work in the field of air ambulance and forest protection, as noted in the press service of the region.
