Production of Suzuki Vitara and S-Cross suspended due to attacks on ships in the Red Sea

Until January 21 at least

Car company Suzuki Motor suspended production at the Hungarian automobile plant for seven days, until January 21, as reported by Nikkei with reference to the company's press service.

This comes amid delays in the delivery of engines and other parts from Japan as a recent spate of attacks on commercial ships in the Red Sea disrupts global logistics.

The delay will halt production of the Suzuki Vitara, which is sold in Japan as the Escudo, and the S-Cross at Suzuki's plant in the northern Hungarian city of Esztergom.

Suzuki's assembly plant in Hungary produced 142 thousand cars last year. It produces only Vitara and S-Cross crossover models.

It was previously reported that Tesla and Volvo are shutting down factories in Europe due to attacks on ships in the Red Sea and shortages of components.
