Apple is preparing to split the App Store “in half” in the coming weeks in anticipation of European requirements Unions that will allow Apple to download applications in the region.

A US company must make changes to its App Store in the EU to comply with the soon-to-be-passed Digital Markets Act (DMA). Apple is apparently planning to make changes to comply with new legal requirements in the coming weeks, including separating the EU App Store from the rest of the world. The deadline by which Apple must comply with the DMA requirements is March 7, so it has just over seven weeks to implement the changes, reports MacRumors.

Last week, Apple CEO Tim Cook met with European Union antitrust chief Margrethe Vestager at Apple Park. Vestager reminded Cook of Apple's future obligation to allow users to install third-party app stores and download programs within the boundaries outlined by the DMA. Apple will also be required to allow developers to promote their offerings outside of the App Store and use third-party payment systems. The DMA is expected to force Apple to make some significant changes to the App Store, FaceTime and Siri in Europe.
