Updates have been released for the first Left 4 Dead and L4D 2. Valve has fixed critical vulnerabilities in classic shooters

There is still no Left 4 Dead 3, but sometimes Valve returns to already released games. We released a couple of updates in the summer

Left 4 Dead and especially Left 4 Dead 2 continue to be actively played in 2024. Valve doesn’t spoil players with updates very often, but sometimes it still remembers these games.

In both cases, Valve offers fixes for various vulnerabilities that could be used by attackers to hack, or simply spoiled the gameplay.

Recently, a mini-patch was released for the first Left 4 Dead and its tools:

  • Several exploits that caused crashes and remote code execution have been fixed.

For Left 4 Dead 2 there was a similar ” technical” update, but it is a little larger and contains more fixes:

  • Fixed an exploit due to which the player could not connect to any game, be it online or local.
  • Fixed two exploits that used “invalid content” to crash the game or prevent it from loading.
  • Fixed memory leak when rejecting “invalid content”

Connoisseurs of Left 4 Dead and Left 4 Dead 2 are very happy about this, but it is looked at with envy by Team Fortress 2 fans who have not yet seen the updates.
