While such a tram is “learning” at the depot: it can already distinguish between pedestrians and even cats and dogs
Deputy Moscow Mayor for Transport Maxim Liksutov, at a lecture for city schoolchildren, said that an unmanned tram will operate in the capital in the second half of this year. It will be launched at a number of sites, and is now being trained to drive autonomously at the depot, as Liksutov said. There is currently a person in the tram cabin during testing.
He sees all the cars that are driving here, he sees the traffic light signal in advance, which light, which traffic light signal will be switched. It even distinguishes between a dog and a cat and will stop if the dog suddenly crosses the tram tracks. He even knows how to predict the behavior of cars and people.

Liksutov said that in the future the tram will learn to drive on its own, without a driver. Now transport is already able to recognize passengers and pedestrians, including those who cross the road in the wrong place. Earlier, the deputy mayor already mentioned that testing of driverless trams will take place in Moscow in 2024, and the launch of fully autonomous modifications was planned only for 2025.
