Information about the upcoming increase in the number of hacker attacks on Russian banks in 2024 was provided by Dmitry Khomutov, CEO of Ideco, a developer of information security tools. Ideco predicts a 15% increase in cyber attacks by March 2024.

Dmitry Khomutov noted that the financial sector, together with IT and industry, is in the top 3 industries most exposed to cyber threats in Russia.

Although it is not yet known whether the number of company compromises will increase, Khomutov drew attention to the skepticism of Russian enterprises towards domestic cybersecurity tools. Instead, they prefer to use foreign solutions, while maintenance and updating of the latter often occurs untimely due to sanctions, which increases risks for companies.

“Many companies today have a double head effect – they buy Russian software because they have to, but still use foreign software. It is difficult to say what percentage of the market adheres to such a strategy, but today it is no longer possible to deny the obvious trend that has emerged, including among representatives of the financial industry, by the end of 2023,” Khomutov said.
