Everything has already been regulated by law
The traffic police in Russia was renamed the State Traffic Inspectorate, as announced by the head of the department, Mikhail Chernikov, during a meeting of the presidium of the Public Council under the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia.
«We have now become the State Traffic Inspectorate, we are removing the traffic police, we have regulated it legislatively. <..>. I don’t know if there will be police, but the State Traffic Inspectorate already exists,” he said, adding that this name is already used in all regulatory documents.
In 1998, the State Traffic Inspectorate was renamed the State Traffic Safety Inspectorate — State Road Safety Inspectorate. In 2002, by decree of the President of Russia, the names of the traffic police and the traffic police became equivalent.
In 2011, during the reform of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, it was proposed to rename the State Traffic Inspectorate into the traffic police, but the department retained its name.
