Garner showed a device called DiskMantler, which dismantles a hard drive into parts in 60 seconds.
More precisely, 60 seconds — This is an average time, and in general the stated range is from 8 to 120 seconds. Apparently, it all depends on the condition and design of the HDD.
The essence of DiskMantler’s work is as simple as possible. In fact, the device simply shakes the drive very intensely, causing it to simply fall apart. Once the process is complete, the machine will output the individual parts.
This device is designed to make the HDD recycling process more efficient and environmentally friendly, because after separation, individual components can be recycled or disposed of much better than the entire HDD as a whole.
