As The Witcher 3 Blood and Wine progressed, the vision for some content changed. The developer decided to remember how it all began
In 2024, one of the developers of The Witcher 3 Wild Hunt decided to use a powerful editor to create modifications “The Witcher 3 REDkit”. He showed the community an original vision of one of the locations that was being prepared for the Blood and Wine expansion. In the process, the developers have noticeably transformed, and now there is an opportunity to get acquainted with the original version.
In the description of the modification “Golden “Beyond Hill and Dale” on Nexus Mods he writes:
“I was working on the “Beyond Hill and Dale…” quest for Blood and Wine many years ago and wanted to use it as a small experiment to test out the new Redkit and make sure I still remember all our tools.
When the quest was originally developed, the idea was to make it a melancholic representation of the classic fairy tales of the Brothers Grimm, set in a dying forest illuminated by the setting sun. In the end, instead of a dying forest, we decided to make it a more vibrant fairytale land, while maintaining the beauty it originally had when it was created for Syanna and her sister Anna Henrietta.
In this mod I tried to recreate that original vision because I was always curious what it would look like. This is not intended to be a replacement for what is presented in the game, but an interesting alternative that shows what could have been.”
