The budget Toyota sports car will retain the classic layout
According to the Japanese resource BestCarWeb, the next-generation Toyota GR86 people's sports car will get rid of the boxer engine – the car will receive an in-line gasoline engine as part of a hybrid system (similar to the one used in the Land Cruiser Prado 250 and the new Lexus GX).
The power of the new power plant will be more than 300 hp, and this is quite a lot, since the power of the 2.4-liter engine in the current Toyota GR86 and Subaru BRZ – 231-235 hp Rear-wheel drive will remain, as will manual and automatic transmissions.
The interesting thing is that if Toyota is developing its own engine for the third generation GT86, this may mean that the third generation Subaru BRZ may not happen. After all, before that, for two generations, budget sports cars used engines developed by Subaru.
It is not known when the third generation Toyota GR86 will be released. According to various sources, the premiere may take place in 2025 or 2028. Well, as for the current Toyota GR86 and Subaru BRZ, their sales in Europe will cease this year. And the reason for this is atypical.
