Scammers promise to make money on cryptocurrency in Telegram, but in reality it is a pyramid

There are even instructions in Russian

Experts «Kaspersky Lab» discovered a fraudulent scheme in which people are offered to make money on the Toncoin (TON) cryptocurrency through Telegram. The scheme is aimed, in particular, at Russian-speaking users; it works on the principle of a pyramid: the potential victim is encouraged to invest money in TON and then invite their friends. They promise a commission for this, but in reality the victim will only lose money.

The scammers prepared instructions for their victims in Russian and English. The user is offered to create a special crypto wallet, and then — use a special telegram bot and enter your wallet address there. Next, you need to buy at least 5.5 TON worth of cryptocurrency and transfer it to your crypto wallet. After this, you need to activate a separate telegram bot to “earn money” by choosing one of the paid “accelerator” tariffs. The creators of the pyramid claim that the more expensive the tariff, the faster a person will start «earning».

At the next stage, the user must create a closed group in Telegram and invite his friends there. In the group you need to post a presentation of the service, activation instructions and links for registering a crypto wallet and installing a telegram bot. The attackers also insist that the potential victim call their friends personally before adding them to the group. The scammers encourage you to connect as many people you know as possible to the pyramid and monitor their activity.

The earnings of participants in such a scheme will supposedly consist of a fixed fee of 25 TON for each invited friend and a commission for the accelerator tariff that friends will buy. But in reality, only attackers will make money. Experts note that the peculiarity of the described scheme is its pyramidal structure: users themselves recommend the service to their loved ones, and a personal recommendation inspires more trust. This makes it easier for attackers to find new victims.
