Free parking loophole will be closed

The Russian Ministry of Transport is working on new amendments to the Road Traffic Rules. In particular, it is planned to make the parking requirements for electric cars more stringent. This was reported by the publication «Kommersant» with reference to documentation found on the government procurement platform.

According to the documentation for the tender for the development of  «scientifically based proposals for the creation and development of a single parking space», owners of electric vehicles are planning to be required to vacate a special parking space after charging is complete. Currently there is no such requirement in the traffic rules, which leads to abuse – some car owners are cunning and use charging points for free parking.

As noted in «Kommersant», experts support the initiative, however, much needs to be done in the area of monitoring the implementation of the new requirement. Also, the size of the fine in case of violation is still unknown.
