The restrictions that Sony has placed on its device have somewhat turned off buyers who do not own a PlayStation 5 console.
But the statement of Hiromi Wakai, Vice President of Product Management at PlayStation, is interesting. He answered in an interview why Sony created the PlayStation Portal:
“Sony developed the PlayStation Portal for a certain segment of gamers who needed a device for remote gaming from PS5. This product was not created to increase profits.”
He mentioned that PlayStation Portal will begin production in 2022. It is difficult to estimate how many devices Sony was able to produce by then, since this was not reported. The last question and its answer are the most interesting. Wakai asked if in the future Portal users would be able to directly stream games without needing a console.
Hiromi Wakai not only did not divulge information about future features of the PlayStation Portal, including direct game streaming, but also did not deny that Sony is considering such a possibility. Having cracked the device's security and launched the emulator with the game (GTA), one can assume that adding the function of streaming games via the cloud will not be too problematic for Sony and will further increase interest in the product.
