CVTs are designed for 1.6-liter Renault H4M
engines
AvtoVAZ began installing the Chinese WLY variator on the Lada Vesta, but the company still has several thousand Jatco variators, which were previously installed on cars with the Renault H4M engine. What to do with these gearboxes — unclear. According to Oleg Grunenkov, director of product programs and projects at AvtoVAZ, no final decision has been made on the remaining transmission from the former supplier.
It is doubtful that the old CVT can be used with the 1.8 EVO engine, since it was originally adapted for the Chinese gearbox. But if AvtoVAZ still has Renault H4M engines, then a batch of cars with «old» units will probably be able to release.
Recall that AvtoVAZ has about 5 thousand 4-speed automatic transmissions left. Jatco, and that’s exactly what they found a use for.
