Frame Generation is a smart animation enhancement technique from NVIDIA. It has long been available on AMD video cards thanks to FSR, which means that developers have this opportunity on consoles as well.
The original developers of Immortals of Aveum were tempted to use Frame Generation on consoles. The game, known for its high technical requirements, runs on Unreal Engine 5 and is capable of delivering even more than 100 frames per second with Frame Generation enabled. This was reported by Digital Foundry and other editors. Impressions are very positive.
Frame Generation is often criticized for control lag on PC, but it is felt much more when using the mouse to quickly pan the camera. On console controllers, the gameplay in Immortals of Aveum is very good. The game runs more smoothly, without any noticeable visual issues.
In the Digital Foundry material, you can notice graphical defects related to FSR 3 Frame-Gen at 9 minutes. Despite the cosmetic problems, it’s worth enabling the function and getting up to 40-50 fps with minimal image degradation. Digital Foundry editors admitted that they prefer Immortals of Aveum with Frame-Gen enabled in the version we tested on XSX.
