This is quite an honor

The excitement around artificial intelligence systems has already led to incredible growth for Nvidia. Now its head, Jensen Huang, has received his award.

In this case, the reward is almost literal: the National Academy of Engineering (NAE) elected 114 new members, and one of them was Huang.

As stated on the NAE website, election to the National Academy of Engineering is one of the highest professional honors awarded to an engineer. The Academy honors those who have made outstanding contributions to «engineering research, practice, or education, including significant contributions to the engineering literature», as well as«innovation in new and emerging fields of technology, having achieved significant success in traditional areas of engineering or the development/implementation of innovative approaches to engineering education».

For the entire existence of the academy, it recruited only 2310 members, which is not so many. As for the Nvidia CEO's membership, it was given out for high-performance GPUs driving the artificial intelligence revolution.
