Internal combustion engines and hybrids available
More than three years since the world premiere of the original model, the 2024 Toyota Corolla Cross has been unveiled. Buyers in Southeast Asia are offered four versions, including hybrids.
Visual updates include newly designed all-LED headlights, which can be seen on Japanese and European market models. Other features include a panoramic sunroof and a power liftgate. The taillights are also LED units with a new pattern.
It comes with a set of 18-inch alloy wheels with a two-tone finish and shod with 225/50R18 tyres, while the GR Sport gets similar tire sizes but a different alloy wheel design.
Based on the TNGA underpinnings, the facelifted Corolla Cross continues to be powered by a 1.8-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine, including a hybrid version. This is still a 1.8-liter 2ZR-FBE unit with 140 hp./177 N·m, which is intended for the base version 1.8 Sport Plus. The hybrid uses a 98-horsepower internal combustion engine and a 72-horsepower electric motor.
The base 1.8 Sport Plus variant gets blind spot monitoring and rear cross traffic alert (RCTA), while the HEV Luxury variant gets the Toyota Safety Sense suite of systems including pre-collision AEB, all-speed dynamic radar cruise control, stop-and-go steering , lane departure warning, lane keeping assist and automatic high beams. Additional active safety equipment includes a stability system, traction control, ABS, EBD, emergency braking system, hill start assist and a tire pressure monitoring system, as well as a passive safety package in the form of seven airbags.
The introduction of an electric parking brake is mentioned instead of the foot-operated mechanical element that was used before the facelift, which also means the addition of an Auto Hold function. The instrument cluster for HEV Premium Luxury and above gets a 12.3-inch all-digital display, while all trims get a 10.1-inch touchscreen that supports wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
