This is not a priority for Apple
The touchscreen has always been missing from Macs, which is a major drawback for some. One of the reasons the Cupertino giant is hesitant to bring this feature to any Mac just yet is that it would likely hurt iPad tablet sales. But still, in the foreseeable future, Apple will provide the MacBook with touch screens.
Journalist and insider Mark Gurman from Bloomberg notes that we will have to wait a few more years. Now the main goal of the company — increase differentiation across product categories, including iPad and Mac.

It's worth understanding that in order for MacBooks to have touch screens, Apple will need to configure macOS accordingly. Currently, the system is in no way oriented towards touch screens.
However, here we can remember that supposedly next year Apple may release a folding MacBook with a 20-inch screen, and it theoretically should be touch-sensitive, otherwise the meaning of such a device is lost.
