As expected, at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2024, Lenovo demonstrated a concept laptop with a transparent display — ThinkBook Transparent Display Laptop Concept. Previously, a press image of the device was available and nothing was reported about its characteristics. Now there are live photos from the exhibition and some information about the technical capabilities of the device. Thus, the laptop display is 17.3-inch, MicroLED, with a maximum brightness of 1000 nits, it provides transparency up to 55%. True, the resolution is a bit low for such a large screen — only 720p.
The laptop's keyboard is touch-sensitive and can also be used as a graphics tablet for drawing with a stylus. And, of course, artificial intelligence could not be avoided: the camera on the laptop lid recognizes objects located behind the transparent display and displays information about them on the laptop screen. The company believes that such a device will be suitable for creative people, such as artists, helping them better interact with objects in the real world.
While the Lenovo laptop with a transparent display — This is just a concept and we don't expect it to be released as a consumer device anytime soon. But according to Lenovo's executive director of ThinkPad products, Tom Butler, “there is a very high probability” that within the next 5 years the company will develop this technology and, ultimately, bring to market a real device with transparent display.
