Lada is in the lead
In January 2024, sales of used passenger cars in Russia decreased by 10% compared to the previous year, reaching 325 thousand units. Almost a quarter of them were from the Lada brand, as reported by the analytical agency «Avtostat».
Domestic Lada models remain popular in the secondary market, attracting the attention of 78.2 thousand Russians in January, which is 1.4% less than a year ago. Toyota and Kia took second and third place respectively, selling 36.9 thousand (-13.9%) and 18 thousand (-11.8%) used cars for the month.
The njg-10 most popular brands also included Hyundai (17.7 thousand units, -14.3%), Nissan (16 thousand, -12.4%), Volkswagen (13.4 thousand, -18%), Chevrolet (12.1 thousand, -10.2%), Renault (11.4 thousand, -11%), Ford (10.8 thousand, -15.2%) and Honda (10.6 thousand, -12%).
Analysts note that all brands in the top 10 showed negative dynamics compared to January of the previous year, but Lada’s losses were smaller than the others, ranging from 10% to 18%.
The leader among the models was the domestic hatchback Lada-2114 «Samara-2», sold in the amount of 7,313 units. In second place was the Ford Focus with 6,624 units sold, followed by the Korean Kia Rio and Hyundai Solaris, which sold 6,583 and 6,492 units respectively.
Sedan Lada-2170 «Priora» also entered the top five, and only two models from the top 10 showed sales growth: «Niva» and Lada-2107 with an increase of 9.4% and 0.1%, respectively.
The secondary automobile market in Russia continues to fall for the third month in a row. The first decline in sales was noticed in November 2023 (by 0.5% to 458 thousand units), and then it continued in December, when Russians purchased 419.7 thousand used cars, which was 10.5% less than in December 2022.
