Electronics manufacturers in Russia are increasing the production of motherboards and increasing the amount of investment in it. The bulk of the products are focused on Intel and AMD chips of previous generations, as reported by Kommersant. with reference to industry representatives.
GS Group plans to launch an additional circuit board production line in February, doubling annual capacity to one million units. This decision was caused by an increase in orders by 28% in 2023, to 500 thousand boards, as well as a doubling of the volume of contracts for the current year.
Another manufacturer, Fplus, is going to increase production from tens of thousands to hundreds of thousands of units per year. Ivan Pokrovsky, executive director of the Association of Electronics Developers and Manufacturers (ARPE), confirmed the increase in orders, although it was difficult to provide general figures for the industry. He emphasized that this growth is due to government regulation.
Ivan Pokrovsky added that the policy of import substitution in electronics led to a significant increase in prices (by 20%) for domestic products and created queues for contract manufacturing for several months.
Director of the company «Promobit» (server and storage system manufacturer Bitblaze) Maxim Koposov said that modern processors released after the imposition of sanctions by Western countries are not used in production. There is no official documentation to allow these chips to be integrated onto a board. As for processors of previous generations, they are imported into the country through a parallel import system.
Some companies negotiate with Chinese organizations, but this increases costs and development time, which is confirmed by experts interviewed by the publication.
