This allegedly violates UN sanctions
US State Department spokesman Matthew Miller said that his department does not approve of the act of Russian President Vladimir Putin, who presented an Aurus car to Kim Jong-un.
He called this step a violation of UN sanctions by Russia: «UN Security Council resolutions require all countries — UN member states to introduce a ban on the supply of both vehicles and luxury cars to the DPRK. And if this is true, then it seems that Russia is once again violating the UN Security Council resolutions, which it itself supported».
Next, Miller decided to take a jab at the Russian limousine manufacturer, laughing at the premium quality of the Aurus: «I saw these messages, but I honestly didn’t know that there was such a thing as a„luxury car Russian production“. I hope Kim got the extended warranty. I’m not sure that if I were buying a luxury car, I would look for it in Russia, even if there were no sanctions».
Previously it became known that Russian President Vladimir Putin presented the leader of the DPRK Kim Jong-un with a Russian-made car. Press secretary Dmitry Peskov said briefly about the gift: «Yes. This is a car „Aurus“».
The supply of luxury cars to the DPRK is prohibited by UN Security Council sanctions, while Kim Jong-un still uses the German Maybach 62, which was released 20 years ago, for official trips.
