New product will be released this year
Stellantis supported spy shots of Leapmotor C16 – half price Li L8 Reading time: 3 minutes .
A few days after Leapmotor unveiled its C10, new details have emerged about the Stellantis-backed company's next vehicle. The Leapmotor C16 will go on sale later this year and will be available in six- and seven-seat versions.
The Leapmotor is marketed as a cheaper version of the Li L8, just like the C10 is marketed as a cheaper version of the Li L7. Zhu Jiangming, CEO of Leapmotor, recently said: «Every part of Leapmotor C10 learns from Li L7. Li Auto is worth studying in terms of understanding user needs, product management, comfort, etc.».
The Leapmotor C16 not only looks similar to the Leapmotor C10, but it actually resembles the L series machine from Li Auto. Taillights with light strips cover the entire rear section. The cabin is equipped with an LCD instrument panel and a large central infotainment unit. There's no separate entertainment screen for the front passenger, but like Li's L series, there's a roof-mounted flip-up entertainment screen for second-row passengers. The spy shots show a six-seater car with the second row having individual seats with armrests.
The cars will feature a new oil-cooled electric motor, and a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8295 chip will be used to control smart and entertainment functions.
The Li L8 currently retails for $47,250–55,600, and the Leapmotor C16 is reported to be half that price.
Stellantis acquired a 20% stake in Leapmotor in October 2023.
