xAI, an artificial intelligence company owned by Elon Musk, has published the source code of its chatbot on GitHub. The announcement says that the release contains the “code and network architecture” of the Grok-1 model “with 314 billion parameters.” As VentureBeat notes, the model is released under the Apache 2.0 license, which allows commercial use but does not include training data or connectivity to X for real-time data.
A previous post by xAI in November noted that Grok's large language model “has been in development over the last 4 months” and is intended to “generate text and answer questions.”
