Intel still hasn't managed to beat AMD yet. A comparison of two versions of the MSI Claw console and two versions of the Asus ROG Ally puts everything in its place

In case of Claw you can save on CPU

The authors of the Retro Tech Dad channel decided to compare two versions of the MSI Claw portable game console on different processors and two versions of Asus ROG Ally, also on different APUs. The results turned out to be quite interesting, and for several reasons at once.

Let us remind you. The MSI Claw is powered by either a Core Ultra 5 135H or a Core Ultra 7 155H, while the Asus console is powered by either a Ryzen Z1 or Ryzen Z1 Extreme. At the same time, the difference between the two indicated Intel CPUs is very small, but the AMD APUs are very different.

To begin with, it is worth noting that there is often no or almost no difference between versions of Claw. Technically, the two Intel processors are very close. Moreover, it is worth remembering that the Core Ultra 5 135H was initially presented as having an iGPU with seven Xe cores, but then we discovered that the parameters have been corrected on the Intel website, and this processor has eight Xe cores, that is, the same as the Core Ultra 7 155H.

The second important point is that the Ryzen Z1, despite its rather modest parameters, is not particularly behind the Z1 Extreme in a number of games and performs at the level of Intel processors. Although in other projects this APU predictably shows the worst results.

Third conclusion: Z1 Extreme is almost always noticeably faster than its competitors. At the same time, the Z1 Extreme consumes less energy than both Intel CPUs, and the Z1 — even less.

In addition, you can see that in some games the MSI Claw has problems with smooth operation, which is likely due to shortcomings in the GPU driver.
