Japan will impose additional sanctions on those who help circumvent previously introduced restrictions on the supply of Japanese cars to Russia
In August, Japan introduced a ban on the supply to Russia of cars with an engine capacity of more than 1.9 liters, as well as hybrids, electric vehicles and even kei cars. But several months have passed, and there are still new Toyota Camry, RAV4, Land Cruiser, Honda CR-V, Subaru Forester and many other sanctioned models on sale. Now Japan has announced its intention, if not to put an end to parallel imports, then at least to greatly complicate the supply of «prohibited» cars.
The country's Foreign Minister Fumio Kishida announced at the G7 forum that Japan, by the end of this year, will extend sanctions against Russia to individuals, companies and even third countries that help circumvent those introduced this year & nbsp;strict restrictions.
At the moment, the most popular Japanese cars (the same RAV4, Camry, Corolla, etc.) are really not imported from Japan — they come mainly from China and the United Arab Emirates. The extension of sanctions to these countries could lead to the shallowing of the trickle of parallel imports of new Japanese cars to Russia.
