DDR5 memory will become more expensive, and all because of the huge demand for HBM memory. Analysts predict a 15–20% rise in prices next year

Manufacturers produce what brings more profit

And again analysts are talking about rising prices for PC components. This time we are talking again about DDR5 memory, but the reasons are different.

TrendForce analysts report impressive growth in demand for HBM memory, which is due to the use of this memory in AI accelerators, the demand for which is growing at an incredible pace. The problem is that HBM memory production is tied to DRAM memory production. The first is not only more expensive, but also more profitable for manufacturers, and they are beginning to shift their emphasis to the production of HBM, which affects the volume of DRAM production.

As a result, it is expected that prices for DDR5 may increase by 15-20% next year. Of course, prices for HBM will also increase, but this does not particularly affect ordinary users, since there are currently no consumer products with such memory on the market. But the rise in price of DDR5 will affect a lot of people, given that with the release of Intel Arrow Lake processors, the market will completely abandon DDR4, if we talk about new platforms.
