Square Enix is likely already planning the next installment in the series, and the topic of Final Fantasy XVII was raised by PlayStation representative Shuhei Yoshida. The head of the indie games department spoke with the developer of Final Fantasy and asked about the new part.
During the conversation, producer Naoki Yoshida suggested that Final Fantasy XVII could be created by the next generation of developers – a change of generations could significantly affect the entire universe.
“Maybe it’s time for someone new to take on the next game instead of the same old people. In a way, I think it would be nice to look into the future and attract the younger generation with a more sensitive psyche to create a new Final Fantasy with challenges relevant to the modern world.”
We can assume that work on Final Fantasy XVII has already begun. The corporation is likely developing the first concepts for the new part, and it is quite possible that Naoki Yoshida decided to say these words to confirm the change of generations in the future.
During the conversation, Yoshida also mentioned that new developers will have to “challenge” the previously released parts of the great series. The producer emphasized that he did not want to create negativity or competition, but the authors of Final Fantasy always implemented adventures with the thought “my [part] will be the best.” In his opinion, the team should first put ideas on paper to decide what would be best for the universe, and then decide on details such as the location and combat system.
