Previously it was planned to restart the site before the end of 2023
The restart of the AGR Russia car plant, which was previously owned by Volkswagen, is postponed to 2024. The governor of the Kaluga region, Vladislav Shapsha, stated this in an interview with Nika TV.
I simply cannot announce these negotiations that are ongoing and the results that we have received. Because, firstly, this is a trade secret, and secondly, we simply see how competitors hang on our every word and immediately run to put a spoke in our wheels. But we will still launch this plant. What we didn’t do at the end of this year, we will do at the beginning of next year. And everything will develop as it should.
Vladislav Shapsha
In the summer it became known that all Russian assets of Volkswagen, including automobile and engine plants in Kaluga, a spare parts warehouse in Chekhov near Moscow and many information resources became the property of a new structure called AGR Automotive Group.
At the same time, Vladislav Shapsha promised for the first time that the former Volkswagen plant in Kaluga could start operating with a new partner before the end of 2023.
