Today AvtoVAZ launched pilot production of the e-Largus electric station wagon. During this event, the head of the company, Maxim Sokolov, spoke about the electrification of the current line. It turns out that there is already an electric Niva.
«We have prototypes of electric cars, they are already being tested at our test site. In particular, this is an electric Niva, and in the future it will be a Lada Vesta. They will be produced in Togliatti. And these will be the most highly localized domestic machines in terms of their level. But everything will depend on demand and government support, because so far we see that the market for cars with internal combustion engines is larger in volume. And we're betting on it. Not long ago we introduced a new 1.8 liter engine — in the near future it will be installed on our models», — noted the top manager.
About which «Niva» we are talking about, it is not clear: it could be both Niva Legend and Niva Travel. There are no characteristics of the power plant. As for the new engine with a volume of 1.8 liters, 25 Lada Vestas with this engine and a variator should be produced this month.
