A thermometer, a pulse oximeter, a stethoscope, and an electrocardiograph in one small device. Withings BeamO multiscope introduced

For 250 dollars

Withings brought an unusual device called BeamO to CES 2024.

If you just look at it, it is difficult to guess what it is intended for. Meanwhile, this is a very useful device that combines several functions at once. This includes a thermometer, a pulse oximeter, a stethoscope, and an electrocardiograph. The company itself calls the new product a multiscope.

To measure temperature there is a proprietary Thermo second generation IR sensor. An ECG can be obtained through electrodes on the body. With a pulse oximeter everything is simple, but the implementation of the stethoscope function is quite unusual. The idea is that a special piezoelectric disc picks up acoustic noise coming from a person's chest or back and then converts it into an electrical signal that can be read by BeamO. Actually, this is how many electronic stethoscopes work, but not every person has encountered such a device.

BeamO also includes a USB-C headphone adapter, so you can listen to the result before transferring the audio to the Withings app. During telemedicine sessions, you can also stream audio directly to your doctor.

It remains to add that BeamO is estimated at $250.
